Our client operates a pan-European freight and cold-chain distribution network with over 4,500 active delivery vehicles and 18 regional distribution fulfillment hubs. Each vehicle is equipped with telematics hardware reporting GPS coordinates, engine diagnostics, and cargo temperature readings every 3 seconds.
As their fleet expanded, their legacy telemetry infrastructure—a composite setup of self-managed RabbitMQ clusters and third-party SaaS logging agents—began experiencing severe ingestion backpressure during peak morning dispatch windows. High network overhead and cellular handoffs across EU borders caused data packet loss, leading to gaps in compliance audit trails. Furthermore, their monthly observability vendor bills were escalating at an unsustainable pace.
An initial architectural audit surfaced three core bottlenecks:
Rather than adding more intermediate message broker instances, we migrated the platform to Axisforge Events:
We configured the on-vehicle firmware to buffer telemetry events locally in memory for 15 seconds, bundling records into efficient, structured JSON batches up to 256 KiB. These are dispatched over persistent HTTP/2 connections directly to the Axisforge Ingestion Gateway.
For regional operations centers, we integrated the Axisforge Events HTTP/2 streaming live tail. Dispatchers can now monitor real-time vehicle alerts, temperature deviations, and delivery milestones with sub-second latency.
All telemetry events are automatically archived in encrypted S3 buckets within Germany, fulfilling strict pharmaceutical cold-chain regulatory compliance with automated 90-day retention lifecycles.
Within eight weeks of full fleet rollout, the logistics operator achieved:
